Sony's A7R II shipped with a 11+7 bit lossy-compressed format. While the photos you took looked good, Sony threw out photo information to compress the images to a certain file size. In other words you're photos could look even better, but Sony won't allow it... Until now. Or make that October 19th!
On October 19th, the Sony A7R II will FINALLY receive firmware update 2.0 that will allow you to shoot fully uncompressed 14-Bit RAW Images! One thing to keep in mind if you do shoot fully uncompressed is that each photo will end up being almost 80 MB, but think of all the extra details your photos will now have.
I don't know about you, but I can't wait for the 19th. For more information, check out their blog post HERE!
